Why go green with gecko design?

Gecko’s Design Philosophy is simply put: “Keep it simple and keep it sustainable”

Paper is the ‘Design for Print’ Industry’s biggest resource. Indeed the print industry couldn’t run without it. This is why Gecko decided to team up with various eco-organizations to help offset the environmental cost of designing for paper, and the web. Gecko does this by using sappi triple green paper and through the planting of apple or maringa tree via affiliated organizations, such as Trees for Life and Food & Trees for Africa, or through donations to the organizations themselves. You get a great design and better peace of mind of a green future. Paper is certainly priceless.

Examples of how design can be green:

  • In the case of a Book, 1 tree per 10 pages of your book is planted in your name. E.g. a 300 page book would = 30 trees) More info on Typesetting and Layour can be found here
  • For a Website, 1 tree is planted each month for the duration of the website’s online lifespan. To further offset carbon emissions, only green hosting providers that use solar or wind based power, such as texo.co.za, are subcontracted by gecko, to host your website. More info on this here
  • In the case of any other design work, a donation of 20% of the proceeds will be made to either Trees for Life or Food and Trees for Africa, or an eco-organization of your choice.
